Today we waked up and the weather wasn't good at all, so we decided not to go for swimming, it wouldn't be the best idea because of the waves and of course we had to be early back at the house to get ready for the big celebration.
But first the homemade desserts and the coffee.
Enjoy!
The best was the traditional Galaktoboureko, which is a Greek dessert made with layers of golden brown crispy phyllo, sprinkled with melted butter, filled with the most creamy custard and bathed in scented syrup. Yummy!
Here are some pictures of my first contact with Kalyves area.
Kalyves is a large village in Crete. It is on the coast at the entrance of Souda Bay. The town is bound on one side by the sea and the other by low hills.
Another wonderful and very peaceful place for coffee in the morning is Cafe Potamos.
While we were passing through I took some pictures but unfortunately we didn't have the time not even for a quick coffee but we promised to come back and enjoy this beautiful view, the waters, the ducks and the nature in all its glory.
As we were dazzled by the beauty of the river, we saw while we were walking a beautiful house and we asked the owners if we could take some pictures. They let us in. Wow privileged people, house by the sea and river. Such a beauty, that can not described with words, only with eyes!
Next to the house is another coffee place by the sea.
So after our small tour we came back to the house to get ready for the Celebration Gathering.
I had to take pictures of the garden. So beautiful and so tidy.
Here are some flowers for the hostess of the house, as we were celebrating her nameday and her birthday.
The food was beyond superb. I had the opportunity to try Cretan dishes, such as Gamopilafo - Wedding Pilaf. This pilaf served during wedding festivities in Crete is famous all over Greece.
The rice is cooked in stock made from quality meat and bones. To enhance the taste of the pilaf, fresh butter is also used in generous quantities. However simple this preparation may sound, it requires a skilled person with years of experience in this kind of ceremonial pilaf.
Greek rabbit stew is commonly called Stifado. It is a fabulous rustic and hearty stew and a specialty in Crete.
The best part was the desserts. There is a special cake, which I ate it before and actually it is one of the best cakes ever.
Enjoy!
After we relaxed we went for drinks to Almyrida.
Almyrida is a resort located in the Apokoronas region of the northwest coast of the island of Crete, Greece. The village is approximately 25 kilometers from Chania.
First we wander around the area and we found plenty hotels with swimming pools.
Drinks with a view!
What else Strawberry Daiquiri, Cheers!
